ATLANTA SENIOR PHOTOGRAPHER | Cap and Gown Portraits at UGA
Taking cap and gown portraits at the University of Georgia is always fun, but taking them of my son Henry and his fraternity brother, Will was extra special. When you walk around the UGA campus, you can’t help but feel the buzz of excitement in the sea of red. I can see why my boys love it because there is not shortage of things to do. On an average day, you will see a full stage set up on the front lawn of a fraternity house, people casually walking up and down Milledge Avenue and impromptu gatherings anywhere - well, everywhere.
We started our session at the arch - the symbol of UGA and the fine education that this university offers. Once the calendar flips to April, lines form with students and their photographers to take that iconic shot. We were lucky because we started early and we were the first there, but a sea of students walking to and from campus - but never THROUGH the gates were tricky to avoid.
The UGA Chapel was the next stop. With it’s columns and stark white exterior, it makes the perfect backdrop for a formal portrait. Slip around to the other side and you will fine the bell tower which has it’s own significance to UGA graduates who ring it to celebrate victory in academics, athletics and ever personal life.
Continuing on we hit the fountain with it’s formal lawn and amply photo opportunities. Seeing as we showed up on a popular day for sorority formals, there were alot of people mulling around the fountain. At this point we trekked the longest distance to Sanford Stadium, the home of the Georgia Bulldogs. What a great location to visit and pop some champagne to celebrate.
One the way back to where we parked, we stopped at the Founders Memorial Garden. This peaceful garden is a beautiful spot for graduation photos, with its flowers, fountains, and sculptures. The lighting was perfect and it was a great place to take our last shots!
A special shoutout to College Wear, Inc. for the wonderful personalized stole. It was well worth every penny and it really speaks to Henry and all of his accomplishments while at UGA.
The payment for this session came in the form of an evening with my oldest son, dinner JINYA Ramen bar and a gallery of memories. It was well worth every minute.
